[UPDATED:] Santa Ana Police Kill Robbery Suspect

UPDATE: Police identified the man killed by officers (details below) . . .

Armed men walked into El Metate Market near Bristol Street and Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and snatched the
purse of a woman shopping with her husband.

The hubby tussled with the men before noticing one of them was packing. The commotion caught the attention of a security guard, who rushed over but then also backed off when he saw the gun.

As the men fled with the purse, the cops were called. Two men fitting the bandits' description were caught running in the 1500 block of West Occidental Street. There, Santa Ana Police officers arrested one man
without a hassle, but a second fought with the cops.

As Denisse Salazar recounts in the Orange County Register, he was the robbery suspect with a gun.

When officers saw the weapon, they pulled out their service revolvers 9mms and fired.

Down goes suspect. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

Police have not yet
identified him, nor the officers, but the name of the other suspect was
released: Alexander Lamont Talauega, who is 19.

He is
currently being held in Orange County Jail on armed robbery charges.

As
with all officer-involved shootings, the Orange County District
Attorney's Office is investigating, and as with all officer-involved
shootings investigated by the OCDA, it's a solid bet the officers will
be cleared.

UPDATE: The man who died has been identified as Marcus Sulusi Tagatauli, 19, of Garden Grove. Police say he was only shot once, in the leg, but the bullet hit a major artery. Talauega is
being held on suspicion of felony attempted robbery, robbery and assault
with a deadly weapon, but under California law he could still be charged
with felony murder in Tagatauli's death.

For those keeping score at home, this is Santa Ana PD's fourth officer-involved shooting of the year, resulting in the deaths of two robbery suspects, including
Talauega.
