[UPDATED:] Anthony Nicolas Orban, Westminster Police Detective Accused of Brutal Rape, May Have Other Victims

Westminster Police Detective Anthony Nicolas Orban told his wife he lost his service revolver.

Then the gun turned up in the car of a 25-year-old woman who was carjacked and kidnapped in Ontario Saturday before being forced to strip and gunpoint before being brutally raped in Fontana.

Orban, 30, has now been arrested for the crimes, and police fear there may be other victims out there.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin has been all over the story.

“This is an absolutely
vicious attack,” Ontario police Sgt.
David McBride tells the paper. “We kind of feel the way it was orchestrated, it may
not have been the first time. We're concerned. We want to make sure the
public can feel safe calling us or (someone) who may have been a victim
of a similar crime.”

Anyone with information about the attack or who feels as if they were victimized by the pair previously is
asked to call Ontario police at (909) 395-2908.

The woman was walking to her car in the Ontario Mills shopping mall parking lot around 5 p.m. Saturday when she was confronted by two men. As she got in her car, one man entered the passenger side and ordered her at gunpoint to drive off as the second man stayed behind.

The woman was told to drive north on the 15
Freeway and then pull off into a commercial complex along Base Line Road in
Fontana. The gunman there forced the woman to disrobe before raping her at gunpoint.

After about two hours in the car, the woman managed to break free and call 9-1-1.

Her attacker had fled, but he left his revolver behind.

Ontario Police say around this time Orban called Jeff Thomas Jelinek, a 30-year-old Chino men's prison guard, to come pick him up in Fontana.

Orban then called his wife and said he lost his gun.

The Mrs. called Ontario Police to report her husband's service revolver was missing.

Officers investigating the missing gun met Orban and Jelinek at Ontario Mills, but something seemed screwy about both men's statements, according to Ontario Police.

Meanwhile, cops investigating the rape in Fontana found the revolver and traced it back to Orban.

The officers at the mall then arrested Orban and Jelinek.

Orban,
who has been on the Westminster police force for five years and was a detective assigned to the
investigation bureau at the time of his arrest, was held on suspicion of rape,
carjacking, kidnapping and false imprisonment.

Jelinek, who has worked for the state Corrections Department for four years as a correctional officer, was held on suspicion
of carjacking and as an accessory to the crime.

The woman was treated at a
local hospital and released

UPDATE: In a 14-page felony complaint filed Tuesday by the San Bernardino
County district attorney's office, Orban is charged with kidnapping,
rape, forced oral copulation, penetration with a foreign object, forced
sodomy and making criminal threats; and Jelinek is charged with
kidnapping, rape and being an accessory after the fact.

If convicted, each faces a sentence of 25 years to life
in prison on the rape charge. They are scheduled to be arraigned today
in Rancho Cucamonga. Prosecutors have
asked that bail for both be raised from $1 million to $2 million. They
are being held at West Valley Detention
Center
in Rancho Cucamonga. They have been placed on paid leave of absence by
their respective agencies. 

Jelinek
gets the rape charge because his actions aided the
crime, Deputy Dist. Atty. Debbie Ploghaus tells the Los Angeles Times. “What makes it so heinous is the fact that [Orban] is a police officer
and his job is to protect people and this is what he's doing,” she reportedly said. “They are both law enforcement officers.”
