A 29-year old Mission Viejo man was found unconscious in his cell at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2010. Deputies took efforts to save his life and he was transported to a local hospital but he was pronounced dead.

He was arrested by Mission Viejo Police Services on April 29, 2009 and was being held on a variety of charges, including robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, both with a gang enhancement, and as a parole violator.

Deputies found him alone in his cell and preliminary evidence indicates that he hanged himself.

The Orange County District Attorney is investigating the incident, as is the protocol in all in-custody deaths. An autopsy has been scheduled.

His identification is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Further questions about the death and circumstances surrounding it should be directed to the Orange County District Attorney.
