Liverpool band Her’s were killed in a car accident en route to their show last night at the Constellation Room inside the Observatory in Santa Ana, the group’s label has confirmed. Both members of the band– Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading–as well as their tour manager Trevor Englebrektson died in the crash which apparently occurred in Arizona on Interstate 10 around 1 a.m. The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that four people were killed when a pickup truck collided head-on with the band’s passenger van.
The duo’s label, Heist or Hit, confirmed the news in a post on Facebook.
“We are all heartbroken…Their energy, vibrancy and talent came to define our label. As humans, they were warm, gentle and hilarious. Each time they stopped by the office made for an uplifting experience. To say they were close would be an underestimation of a friendship that was genuinely beautiful to witness; they loved one another like brothers.”
“Musically, Her’s were astonishing,” the post continues. “An aptitude for melody, fun, and entertainment combined with a complexity that was as sophisticated as it was stylish. They were in America playing to thousands of adoring fans. Fans they made a point of meeting and spending time with, such was their passion and humbleness. The world was at their feet. Everyone here at the label is overwhelmed and distraught. We have lost our friends and the world has been denied their talent.”
The band were in the midst of their second tour of North America, which included a stop in Austin, Texas at South By Southwest where they filmed this live acoustic video below.
The label offered their thoughts and prayers to the families of Fitzpatrick, Laading and Englebrektson and asked that fans respect their privacy during this extremely difficult time.
Her’s released their debut album, Invitation to Her’s, last year.
The band’s music–a mix of bedroom dream pop and lo-fi rock earned the band a devout following both in Europe and North America. The band was wrapping a sold out tour behind the LP, which released last August, and had two stateside gigs remaining. Prior to Invitation To Her’s, Fitzpatrick and Laading released a collection of singles in 2017 titled Songs of Her’s.
