When police and fire units arrived at the Mount Drive residence just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, they found the man suffering from a single stab wound to the stomach, according to police Lt. Ben Stauffer, the Garden Grove agency's spokesman.

Gutierrez was located a short time later at a home in Santa Ana, where officers detained him until their Garden Grove counterparts arrived. He was taken into custody without incident and later booked into Orange County Jail for attempted murder, said Stauffer, adding Gutierrez is now being held there on murder charges.

Police for now are withholding the name of the dead man, but a neighbor told City News Service he was a 25-year-old who moved into the house on the quiet street a few months ago.

“They are a nice family, nothing out of the ordinary,” said the neighbor identified only as Mike T. “You don't see this kind of thing here.”

UPDATE NO. 1, FEB. 17, 5:15 P.M.: The man who was fatally stabbed in Garden Grove has been identified by authorities as Cesar Bravo, 25, who'd moved to the murder scene from Tustin.

There are reports Bravo and Gutierrez were friends.

UPDATE NO. 2, FEB. 19, 1:36 P.M.: Ubaldo Gutierrez Jr., 25, of Tustin, was charged today with one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon, according to an arraignment statement from prosecutors.

He was being held on $1 million bail pending a scheduled arraignment hearing today in Westminster.

An Orange County District Attorney's office statement indicates Bravo was fatally stabbed in the abdomen while inside his Garden Grove home.
