Tom Daly Gets Orange County Business Council Nod for Assembly

The Orange County Business Council–which counts former Republican legislative leader Dick Ackerman as a director, once hosted Ronald Reagan speech writer Peggy Noonan for a swanky dinner and supports every noxious project churned out in this GOP encrusted county–is supporting a Democrat for Assembly.

Put the stewed prunes back in your mouths, OC Republicans: it's only Tom Daly, the Joe Lieberman of Orange County Democrats.

“Tom's service in public office has provided him an understanding of how government can reduce red tape to increase government efficiencies, improve business opportunities to invest and grow, and help regain the public trust through positive interaction,” says Lucy Dunn, CEO and president of the OCBC, in a statement.

Daly served on the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees, the Anaheim City Council and, for 10 years, as Anaheim's mayor before being elected the Orange County
Clerk-Recorder.

Now he's running for the state Assembly's
69th District seat that is currently held by Jose Solorio (D-Santa Ana), who is termed out. Daly will have to beat Santa Ana City Councilwoman Michele Martinez and longtime labor activist Julio Perez for the Democratic nomination before facing a sacrificial Republican lamb in the fall.

Democrats, of course, loves them some taxes, which is one thing they have in common with the Business Council–if we're strictly talking about government aide to OCBC, which the County of Orange gladly hands over.
