Today's Don't Miss: “Cypher Vision”

This is tough, because recommending a corporate surf film goes against my, comrade Kim Jong-Il and Barack Obama's training.

But Quiksilver's Cypher Vision is just too cool to look at to dismiss.

Using some kind of new fangled camera never before used in surfing, the very short flick catches surfers like Dane Reynolds, Jeremy Flores and superstar Kelly Slater gliding effortlessly through the waves, with each of splash of water in clear focus. You can't take your eyes off it.

But, as mentioned above, it is very short. Fortunately, Cypher Vision screens with two other documentaries that, while they were not previewed by yours truly, I do know they have received awards before coming to Newport. So someone liked 'em.

A Day at the Park is about the Seattle skateboard scene, especially at the town's 15
skateparks. Tom's
Creation Plantation
covers alias surfboard shapes, how shape your own (featuring Tom Wegener), and how to ride 'em, apparently. Be careful taking that DVD player into wave zone, kids.

Action Sports Shorts screen at 12:30 p.m. today at Edwards Island Cinemas.
