It probably was not the endorsement that cost Donald Trump Iowa—or in this screwy presidential election year, who knows?—but The Donald had received last-minute support heading into the caucuses from “The Bad Boy of Huntington Beach,” Tito Ortiz.
“For a person to become a billionaire, to be flat broke bankrupt, to rebuild himself to be a billionaire and now to become almost the president of the United States, it’s amazing,” Ortiz said on a CBS Houston sports radio show Friday. “He’s a hard worker. He can make America great again. That’s my vote for him.”
The MMA fighter, who was the only contestant on the Trump-hosted Celebrity Apprentice to have won a UFC championship belt, went on to concede he was not always a backer of the Republican front-runner.
“I wasn’t in the beginning, of course, I’m Mexican when he said we need to take all the Mexicans out of the United States, well good luck on that one. They’ll find a way to get back here anyways. But in the long run, I think he wants to bring money back to our country and with the debt that we are, I think he has an opportunity to do that.”
In The Loop show host John Lopez, who is also Mexican-American, brought up Trump’s proposed wall at the US/Mexico border as a reason he can’t personally support Trump.
“It’s just not Mexicans that we have worry about,” Ortiz rationalized. “It’s the Muslims, it’s the radicals, that come in that have the opportunity to come in from [Mexico] to our country and do the thing with terrorism that’s hindering our country. We shouldn’t be afraid to walk around and look over our shoulders and some guy has a bomb in his pocket or something stupid.
“I think it needs to be taken care of and I don’t believe the president we have now did not do that job. I think, in my opinion, that Trump can help a lot better.”
Jenna Jameson, the former porn star-turned-born-again-Jewish sage who gave birth to the twin sons her ex- Ortiz is raising in Huntington Harbour, previously indicated she supports Marco Rubio.
