This Week in Food: Prudish Garden Grove, Gentrifying Santa Ana, and Foolish Costa Mesa!

It was a great week here, as always, but not necessarily a good one in the world of OC eating. The highs and lows after the jump!

In the dead-tree edition, Edwin finds that the Disneyland Hotel's new Polynesian-themed restaurants have a tiki train of mind, while I find the golden goat over at Birrieria Chivo de Oro.

On SaFII, Dave offered five disgusting alternatives to a CPK salad (complete with vile photos), checked in with La Reina Tortillería for Tortilla Tuesday, and offered a spicy pork tacos recipe.

Edwin was all over openings this week: Grill Masters (the legendary rotisserie chicken truck) will open in Irvine, Beachwood BBQ is debuting in Long Beach, and there's even an all-Ohio restaurant opening in SanTana. COOL!!!

I discovered that a Nobel Prize laureate thinks pathogens in beef might cause colon cancer, got pissed that the Helm in Costa Mesa is closing, and manned this year's 100 Favorite list this week.

Finally, Shuji broke the news of Bruxie offering a lobster waffle this weekend and checked in with taco asylum's film series, while Anne Marie hung with, um, Hung Tram of La Crêperie Café and wrote about the Brats Berlin luxe lonchera opening this weekend. We welcomed intern Leo with his Q & A with XS Energy Drink founder David Vanderveen, and intern Charles profiled his old high-school hangout, A & J Burger Drive in in Fullerton. And Michelle had the saddest news of all: prudish Garden Grove officials are forcing Vietnamese coffee shops to clothe their waitresses. DAMNIT, PEOPLE, WE'RE IN A RECESSION!!!

Happy eating!
