The Wizard of Oz

The only possible thing that could brighten the beloved story adapted for the stage (besides Liza Minnelli playing the Wicked Witch, could you imagine?!) would be new songs to add to the classic catalogue, composed by musical maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber. And that's what Oz fans get in this delightful Broadway hit—Dorothy singing “Nobody Understands Me,” the Wizard belting out “Bring Me the Broomstick,” and even the Wicked Witch crooning “Red Shoes Blues.” Not a red sequin out of place, a piece of straw askew, nor a poppy wilted, this musical performance is at the top of the game for colorful, charming, wholesome theatrical entertainment. And this Wizard of Oz does what many others failed to: breath just enough new life into the story to make it feel fresh, without compromising one modicum of the tale's legacy.
