The Tale of the Allergist's Wife

In his first play written for a mainstream audience, Charles Busch’s The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife takes a look at one woman’s mid-life crisis, brought on by the onslaught of mediocrity. A departure from Busch’s campier works, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife is no Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, but instead is a play you could safely take your mother to. The addition of Marilu Henner to the cast brings a bit of Broadway flair to the La Mirada Theatre—the show’s original performances earned a considerable number of Tony Award and Drama Desk nominations. Leave it to the female-impersonator who penned Psycho Beach Party to create such a female-friendly, spot-on story of modern neurosis.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Tuesdays-Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Oct. 17, 2010
