Because, really, who has time to make brownies these days?
Diavolo Brands, a marketing company based in Soquel, California, will roll out the beverages at medical-marijuana dispensaries in cannabis-friendly Colorado next month and has tentative plans to bring them to California in the spring, reports the Santa Cruz Sentinel. The five flavors include the flagship Canna Cola, the Dr Pepper-like Doc Weed, the lemon-lime Sour Diesel, the grape-flavored Grape Ape and the
orange-flavored Orange Kush.
Marijuana soda isn't new in Colorado. Our sister paper Westword even taste-tested Keef Cola and Dixie Elixers, a couple of the latest mass-produced lines.
Containing 35 milligrams to 65 milligrams of THC, Canna Cola is substantially less
potent than others on the market, Diavolo Brands founder Scott Riddell told the Sentinel. He compared the product to a
“light beer” alongside high-proof liquors.
What makes it different is its savvy branding. “You
look at all the marijuana
products out there, and they are so mom-and-pop, hippie-dippy and
rinky-dink,” Riddell said. Canna Cola labels, blaring yet clean, would fit in
with the multitude of bottled sodas on grocery-store shelves.
But don't have your happy snacks on standby just yet. The “Brownie Law,” a bill in Congress sponsored by Senator Dianne
Feinstein, passed the Senate last
year. It would increase penalties for makers of products that combine
marijuana with “a candy product.”
