The Godfather Frida Cinema Spring Fundraiser is an Offer You Can't You-Know-What

There are several great reasons to see The Godfather tomorrow at The Frida Cinema in downtown Santa Ana. For one, you'll be gazing up at Paramount Pictures' stunning new 4K restoration of Francis Ford Coppola's modern classic. Also, you'll be taking part in Frida Cinema's 2014 spring fundraiser, and who doesn't want to financially support this important new player in the Orange County cinema scene?

But perhaps best of all, you can use the screening to play solo or challenge your friends to a game of Spot the Goofs. The Godfather is chock full of 'em, just go to the imdb page for the 1972 flick and look under “Trivia”–or simply Google “godfather goofs or mistakes.”

Now, your humble reporter must confess he has never been able to spot a goof in this picture, being too invested in Frankie's masterpiece and the balls-to-the-walls story to catch anything like, for instance, American flags with 50 stars in scenes that are supposed to be taking place in the 1940s.

I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse to attend for the higher cause anyway. Your evening begins 6 p.m. at Diego's Downtown, just across the East End Promenade at 224 E. 3rd St. Mix will fellow foodies and film lovers as Chef Richard Espinachio serves an assortment of tapas and drinks.

At 7 p.m., Logan Crow's Frida Cinema team will give a brief presentation on what the nonprofit has accomplished since debuting at the former Fiesta Twin on Fourth Street Feb. 21, what's coming up and what the future goals are for the organization (goals that cannot be accomplished without your support, OC!).

Then it's over to The Frida, 305 E. 4th St., at 8 p.m. for The Godfather, which is currently ranked as the second-greatest feature film of all time on the aforementioned imdb.

The hearty can keep the party going at 11 p.m., when the action moves back to Diego's Downtown for their free Thursday night concert, which you'll enjoy from a special VIP section set up just for spring fundraiser supporters.
