The Fantasticks

The longest running musical in stage history stops by the South Coast Repertory for a few notes this week. Written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (not that Tom Jones), The Fantasticks first performed off-Broadway in 1960 and is loosely based on the 1890's burlesque play Les Romanesques. It's the story of two fathers scheming to make their children fall in loveā€”the daughter and son, of course, find out and are furious. They go their separate ways but eventually find a path back to their intended. The original production ran an astonishing 42 years. Catch this musical classic now performing in Costa Mesa, directed by Amanda Dehnert.

Wednesdays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: May 12. Continues through June 9, 2013
