The Busy World Is Hushed

It’s a brand-new year, and that means a brand-new season of entertainment from Theatre Out, Orange County’s premier gay-and-lesbian theater company. Starting the season is playwright Keith Bunin’s The Busy World Is Hushed, a drama about faith, family and the complexities of both. A bond is formed when Hannah, a widowed Episcopal minister, finds a ghostwriter for her book in Brandt, a lonely, young gay man dealing with the illness of his father. Enter Hannah’s sexy, albeit elusive son Thomas, and you’ve got an intricate, sensitive, thought-provoking story of matters of the heart and soul. The company’s season is starting on a somewhat-uncharacteristically serious note, but that’s exactly what one should do when following comedies such as December’s Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart But the Very Next Day You Said You Were Gay.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 30, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 28. Continues through Feb. 5, 2011
