It's nonsensical, surreal and bizarre—sounds like our kind of opera. This month, the esteemed Long Beach Opera brings us a French double bill of the weird and beautiful. The Breasts of Tiresias, originally premiering at Paris' Opéra-Comique in 1947, lightly treads on the subject of sexual equality and includes boobs ejecting themselves from women's bodies. The second performance, Tears of a Knife, a one-act written in the '20s, features a strong performance from Satan—in one scene, he does an impressive Foxtrot. Leave your logic at the door, this is a different side of opera—the absurdly fun one.
