The 36th Chamber of Shaolin

Hibbleton Gallery's month-long retrospective of '70s Kung Fu films is something out of Quentin Tarantino's dreams. Fists of Fury, one of Bruce Lee's most famous films, is included, but so are the more brilliant and overlooked gems like Broken Oath and tonight's screening of The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Considered to be the greatest kung fu film ever made, it stars Gordon Liu (who actually appeared in Tarantino's Kill Bill series, once as the leader of the Crazy 88s, and again as strict master Pei-Mei) as warrior-monk San Te who leaves the temple to fight the government alongside a rebel faction. Curated by Hibbleton Gallery's Jesse La Tour, expect to encounter all the bad English dubbing and ruthless action that add to the film's cult appeal.
