Don’t underestimate the power of Kiva’s chocolate covered espresso beans. Although the coated nibs only contain 5 mg of THC, they surprisingly pack a punch. If you only eat one, sure— you probably won’t feel much of anything. But eating one Kiva bean is like eating a single girl scout cookie and putting the box away (and we all know that never happens!). The hardest part about these dark chocolate covered espresso beans is that they taste like heaven, making it nearly impossible to only eat a few. The bitter-sweet chocolate and coffee taste combined with the crunchy texture makes it easy to down as many as six in a row, which puts you at 30 mg of THC. And although that’s not enough to necessarily floor you— it’s definitely enough to get in the way of being productive.

A couple Saturdays ago, my cousin invited me to see Grease at a vintage movie theater. Although I’ve seen the movie nearly 100 times, I figured it would be a great way to take a break from work and doing chores. Plus, earlier in the week I visited Super Clinik and picked up a can of Kiva’s Terra Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans and thought there was no better time to try out the low dosage candy than while watching a movie. I imagined that if I ate a few nibs at the beginning of Grease, I’d feel a slight buzz but would be able to get stuff done around my apartment and get ahead on work for Monday after I got back home.

Man was I wrong. As soon as the opening scene of Danny and Sandy running around on the beach appeared on screen, I opened the round Kiva container and indulged in my first dark chocolate coffee bean—it was heaven. By the time the opening animated credits to the song “Grease is the Word” was playing, I realized I had mindlessly munched on six nibs (because they’re that good!). Within 30 minutes, I went from sober to stoned and completely skipped feeling buzzed. By the time John Travolta and the T-Birds sang “Grease Lightning” I was already asleep in my chair (and apparently snoring, too).

This should be noted, however: When it comes to any kind of edible, I’m a light-weight. It takes one bite of a 120 mg candy bar for me to feel stoned all day (and sleep like a baby). So if you generally need a heavier dosage for edibles and/or THC in general to work for you, eating six Terra Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans probably won’t have the same effect on you as it did for me.

Needless to say, I didn’t get any chores or work done after I Ubered home. I immediately climbed into bed and fell back into a deep, dreamy slumber. Despite eating too many Kiva beans, they were delectable none-the-less. But I definitely learned my lesson: Do not underestimate the power of the tiny Terra Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans.
