The bicyclists were riding in the 700 block of North Western Avenue around 9 p.m. Saturday when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up, four men got out and confronted the pair, Santa Ana Police Commander Jeff Smith told City News Service.

The strangers asked the bicyclists their gang affiliation, and one of the four pulled out a handgun and fired, added Police Commander Jose Gonzalez.

The gangsters got back in the vehicle and drove off north on Western Avenue, toward Seventh Street, Smith said.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim received treatment at an area hospital, Smith said.
