Police who responded to a report of a transient stabbing a woman in the neck at the busy intersection of Beach and Garden Garden boulevards Sunday afternoon two days later arrested the victim's estranged husband, who was held down by family members.

Garden Grove police officers answering the 3:52 p.m. call arrived to find a 41-year-old woman with a stab wound to her neck and several people who'd stopped their vehicles trying to help her, according to a statement for Lt. Jeff Nightengale, the Garden Grove Police spokesman.

She later underwent emergency surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where she is expected to survive her injuries.

Witness told cops the knifeman appeared to be a transient who fled the area on a bicycle, having last been seen riding west on Garden Grove Boulevard from Beach. The woman and family members told detectives Trieu was the attacker, Nightengale said.

Trieu on Tuesday was detained by family members who saw him loitering near Euclid and Westminster avenues, according to the spokesman, who added Garden Grove Police took the suspect into custody around 5:30 p.m.

His bail was set at half a million dollars this afternoon.

Detectives still building the case against Trieu ask anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing to call them at 714.741.5800.
