Taco Bell Crime of the Week: Waffle Tacos Annoy Neighbors!

Mexican food has a long, if not necessarily proud, history in Minnesota, so it's not surprising that some geezers are upset that the Taco Bell in their neighborhood is drawing big crowds for their new breakfast waffle tacos. How upset? They're complaining to the city council and got a lawyer. WEAK SALSA…

From St. Paul:

Taco Bell's new waffle tacos, breakfast burritos and Cinnabon Delights are rubbing neighbors of a Snelling Avenue drive-through the wrong way.

Kristine and Mark Vesley are asking the city to clamp down on the Taco Bell drive-through at 565 N. Snelling Ave., which now opens at 7 a.m. instead of 10 a.m.

In addition to going to bed listening to late-night crowds ordering tacos and gorditas, they're waking up to the morning eaters as well.

“The use was expanded,” said Mark Thieroff, an attorney for the couple. He maintains that Taco Bell was “grandfathered in” when new zoning rules requiring conditional use permits for fast food drive-throughs went into effect in 2011, but the exemption does not cover the expanded hours.
