Syrian Revolution's Second Anniversary is Commemorated in OC This Weekend


A weekend of events will be held in Orange County to commemorate the
second anniversary of the Syrian Revolution.

To kick things off, the Council on American-Islamic Relations Greater Los Angeles Area
office in Anaheim (CAIR-LA) is joining the Syrian American Council LA chapter in presenting an educational event from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Garden Grove.

A panel of experts and Syrian human rights activists will include blogger Razan Ghazzawi, who  was detained twice since since the start of the revolution due to her work
with the Syrian Center for Media Freedom. She used her real name while sending out updates on the bloody struggle in her home country, something that earned her a Front Line
Defenders award in 2012. Ghazzawi recently joined The Syrian American Council LA chapter is the nation's largest Syrian American advocacy group, according to CAIR-LA.

Also speaking will be opposition figure Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, a human rights and international law expert who has taken a lead role
in working with NGOs on the Syria issue, having recently convened a
conference of 170 representatives of organizations who are providing
medical support for Syria. The founder and director of the
Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies in Syria, Ziadeh is also the co-founder
and executive director of the Syrian Center for Political and Strategic
Studies in Washington, D.C.
 
The Crown Plaza is at 12021 Harbor Blvd., Garden Grove.
 
On Sunday there will be a “Walk for the Children of Syria” from 3 to 5 p.m. at South Coast Plaza. This is part of a nationwide event that “aims to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Syria; the event also aims to raise funds for children in Syria that are currently suffering under the dictatorship of Assad,” according to organizers.
