The first green home in Huntington Beach–and among the first in Orange County–has been seized by a bank.
More than $1.3 million was owed on the house, and the opening bid at a foreclosure auction last week was dropped to
$863,820.
Reportedly, there were no takers.

“The house, three blocks from the beach, hit the market at $1,695,000 in January, dropped to $1,295,000, then $1,095,000 and in September, $999,000,” reports Orange County Register real-estate blogger Marilyn Kalfus. “At that point, a ZipRealty 'sale rack' analysis showed it to be the top discounted home in Huntington Beach, at 41.06 percent below its original list price.”
The three-bedroom, five-bath, 2,817-square-foot house at 319 21st St. in Surf City's downtown was built with recycled and nontoxic building
materials and features high-end, energy-efficient appliances and excellent
indoor air quality when compared with typical OC homes.
Public officials lauded
the pad as Orange County's future during its debut in
November 2009. Given the mortgage mess, they were right.
