Sugar Beet Festival This Saturday in Los Alamitos

We all know that our county had a lot of orange groves in the past. But according to Larry Strawther, a Los Alamitos historian, “From 1900 to 1950, this (Orange County) was the sugar beet capital of the United States.”

“The revenue and the acreage was five times that of oranges … for that same time period.” he told a reporter for The Patch.

So he and other organizers are holding the inaugural Sugar Beet Festival in Los Alamitos this Saturday, July 13, to commemorate it. There will be food from about 40 vendors from local restaurants and food trucks, live entertainment, and a “5k-ish” obstacle run which takes you through the streets and alleys of Los Alamitos.
