An officer-involved shooting investigation has been launched following a confrontation between a cop and an armed robbery suspect outside a Garden Grove convenience store early Sunday.

The Garden Grove Police Department got the call at 1:35 a.m. about an armed robbery in progress at the 7-Eleven at 12732 Brookhurst St. “Officers arrived immediately and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” reads a statement from the police agency.
The gunman fled on foot but was captured nearby, according to police, who identified the suspect as Steven Joshua Loia, 23, of Garden Grove. He was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon on an officer and a felon in possession of a handgun.
Loia and no officers were injured, say police, who add a second person was detained and questioned, and a loaded handgun was recovered.
