Sobriety Stop Tonight in Buena Park, Saturday in Garden Grove; Costa Mesa Eyes Motorcycles

There's mucho police enforcement going on along Orange County streets, starting tonight with a DUI/drivers license checkpoint in the 8000 block of La Palma Avenue in Buena Park from 7 p.m. through 2 a.m. Saturday. The Garden Grove Police Department holds its own on an undisclosed stretch of that city from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police in Costa Mesa go after an entirely different set of drivers that same night.

Actually, make that riders.

Extra Costa Mesa cops are patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur, looking for handlebar steerers who may be tipsy or downright drunk.

Don't worry, if you're in a car or truck or some other vehicle with more than two wheels and in that same boozy state, officers will pull you over, too.

The Buena Park, Garden Grove and Costa Mesa enforcements are all funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Costa Mesa has another motorcycle enforcement scheduled for Thursday.

Before that, on Monday, Costa Mesa cops will be looking extra hard for motorists who are not wearing seat belts behind the wheel, kicking off the start of 2012 summer “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
