Slick Streets Won’t Stop Weekend South County and Santa Ana Anti-DUI Ops

Slick streets are not all drivers have to worry about in Mission Viejo, Lake Forest and Rancho Santa Margarita tonight.

Especially if said drivers have been a’drinkin’ and a’druggin*.’

(*including prescription meds)

That’s because deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s DUI Task Force will out in those cities from 7 tonight through 3 a.m. Saturday especially looking to stop and arrest alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers.

“This is a ‘zero tolerance’ crackdown so drive sober or get pulled over!” shouts Traffic Bureau Deputy Manuel Cruz, in reference to his agency’s “saturation patrols” and ongoing anti-DUI campaign.

Meanwhile, the Santa Ana Police Department conducts a DUI/drivers license checkpoint from 9 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday around 500 W. First Street, which is an area I’m pretty sure has been a checkpoint spot before so I’ll assume DUIers swarm that stretch of pavement.

Funding for both agencies’ ops comes from California Office of Traffic Safety grants, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
