Sister Spit

Bay Area queer poetry collective Sister Spit have entranced audiences with their hilarious, edgy and poignant storytelling since founding members Sini Anderson and Michelle Tea united a group of lesbian poets to travel to different poetry slams across the US in 1997. In its twenty-plus years of existence, members have come and gone, Anderson directed a film on Riot Grrrl icon Kathleen Hanna, and Sister Spit quieted down. That is, until the recent resurgence of the group in 2007, which only proves the fire within Tea and other like-minded lovers of lyrics and literature is still burning to connect with others others through the spirit of spoken word. The next generation of Sisters have taken up a new cross-country tour, making one of their stops MADE in Long Beach, featuring new writers, bloggers, poets, and artists performing at the mic.
