The strip mall at the corner of Bristol and Paularino in Costa Mesa is already buzzing with Anjin and the excellent Hakata Ikkousha, but also because it's the site of the highly anticipated upcoming site of Halal Guys and the next branch of Capital Noodle Bar. Now Duke Bakery, which is everywhere in Singapore, is also coming to the mall.
Accordiing to our tipster JBinOC (who gave me this scoop), it will be located in half of the now-subdivided space that was formerly the OCPL Technology Branch, which has been vacant since April 2013.
If you haven't been to Duke Bakery in Rowland Heights and Arcadia, the set-up for this–their first OC store–will be familiar, with tong-self-service just like 85 Degrees, and well, every Asian bakery before and since 85 Degrees.
Before becoming an award-winning restaurant critic for OC Weekly in 2007, Edwin Goei went by the alias “elmomonster” on his blog Monster Munching, in which he once wrote a whole review in haiku.
