Sept. 1 – Sept. 8

Thurs/Sept 1
Just Friends, the new debs on the block, host a Fire Hunk Bachelor Bid at which you will find me. Five firemen will be for sale, and the bidding is expected to be fierce. The auction benefits the Costa Mesa Firefighters Association Widows N Orphans Fund, which I'm sure Just Friends totally cares about, and it's in no way an excuse to make firemen dance like veal. 5:30-7:30 p.m. $15. Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill, South Coast Plaza, 3333 S. Bristol St., Costa Mesa, (714) 979-7469;

Yes, it's up in LA, but I've seen The Los Angeles Philharmonic performing the music of composer John Williams at the Hollywood Bowl, and it was flat-fucking-fantastic. His music is classic American grand (the theme from Superman, etc.), and it's stirring like you wouldn't believe. Tonight, they do it again (and under his direction!)—you just really don't want to park there. 8:30 p.m. $14-$33. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood, (323) 850-2000;

Looking for every last one of the Weekly staff? Try the Mouse House ofBlues: if they don't go see The Knitters and Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, they have to turn in their alt.-cards. 9 p.m. All ages. $23-$26. Mouse House of Blues, 1530 S. Disneyland Dr., Anaheim, (714) 778-2583.

The South will rise again—at least if some of our finer citizens have their way. The Huntington Beach Historical Society presents the Civil War all over again—just like they do in Ol' Virginny!—with Confederate and Union camps open to the public, living history and weapons demonstrations, and an old-fashioned chapel service on Sunday morning. Up with slavery! Yay! 8 a.m. Free. Central Park, Huntington Beach, (714) 962-5777;

I just found out it's Labor Day. Thank God I didn't forget to remind you! Saddle up your kids and find some union guys to spend it with. Might I suggest the IBEW? Electricians are totally hot.

Who wouldn't want to see Little Women—The Musical, especially once they find out it stars Maureen McGovern?! Unfortunately, it turns out Maureen McGovern is an opera singer—not Marsha Brady—but she wasSister Angelina in Airplane! 8 p.m. Thru Sept. 18. $21.25-$64.75. Orange County Performing Arts Center,Segerstrom Hall, 600 Town Center Dr., Costa Mesa, (714) 740-7878 or (213) 365-3500;

Living Colour used to be awesome when I was in high school! Remember “Cult of Personality“? Me too! Remember any of their other songs? Me either! Remember how good and rocking they were at the Coliseum opening for the Rolling Stones? Me too! $20-$22.50. 8 p.m. Mouse House of Blues, Downtown Disney, 1530 S. Disneyland Dr., Anaheim, (714) 520-2319.

Thurs/Sept 8
Checked SqueezeOC's website calendar for something for you to do today, but they said Christopher Titus, Caroline Rhea, Kevin Nealon, John Heffron, Dennis Miller, Richard Jeni, Harland Williams, Tommy Davidson and about 70 other people were all playing the Irvine Improv tonight, which would be the most amazing lineup ever, if only it were true. Oh, except for Caroline Rhea, who is there. She's funny. You'd like her. But I say just head to Peppino's. Tons of electricians are there for the stalking. Peppino's, 27782 Vista Del Lago, Mission Viejo, (949) 859-9556.
