Noted crackpot/cassandra Ian Svenonius did an interview with me last year that got buried alive in the music section, as do all things in the music section, but since being buried alive is much on my mind today I thought I would go back and dig it up. Spiv quotes a lot of classics–anyone familiar …
When it came to this election, Hugh Hewitt, our favorite unintentional radio comedian, fought a long, hard battle against reality. One expects no less from him. He took extraordinary measures to blind and deafen himself, even engaged in a little body-snatching from the Democratic political graveyard, in his attempt to hammer the world into the …
Tan Nguyen is an unfortunate, foolish, racist man who did and continues to do unfortunate, foolish, racist things. But who cares? Don't get me wrong, the issue deserves coverage, especially from OC's homegrown authority on all things Mexican. But Tan is drawing all eyes to him – journalists and bloggers, Republicans and Democracts, conservatives and …
Told you it wasn't the CCIR who sent out the letter telling Latinos immigrants can't vote. Turns out the California Attorney General's office fingered Tan Nguyen, who seemed like the ideal Republican congressional candidate–minority, immigrant-hating, and carpet-bagging. Jail time is rumored for the man, who was running against Loretta Sanchez but is now being urged …
If Costa Mesa were a woman, Scott Weaver would marry her. That is, if he ever got tied down. But why would he? He owns his own computer networking company (Schema Networks) and his own home (in Costa Mesa, of course), he DJs at Costa Mesa's Kitsch Bar among other hot spots, spins for the afro-Cuban …
Assemblywoman Mimi Walters (R-73, 241, 133) is a class act. And like any act, she can be yours if you can afford the hiring fee. Just ask Big Tobacco. Hell, just ask Rancho Mission Viejo; she's really going the extra mile for them. Sixteen miles actually—the length of the proposed Foothill-South toll road extension. Let's …
Daniel Gannaway, musician and active member of the Surfrider Foundation, has composed a song called “Save Trestles”. It can be downloaded from his MySpace page, www.myspace.com/danielgannaway. Why is he giving away the goods for free? “I believe Save Trestles is a really important campaign, and I've contributed in the best way that I know how,” …
Ever committed adultery? Are you homosexual? Prop 90 supporter Howard Ahmanson Jr. wouldn't mind stoning you. Yesterday we discussed Howard S. Rich, a wealthy fellow from New York, and his intense desire to screw with California government by financing groups that back Proposition 90. And Prop 90 is likely to bleed the state dry like …

Mater Dei High is a haven for cover-ups (see our Ex Cathedra archives), but none are lamer than the one attempted by head football coach Bruce Rollinson in today's typical OC Register Mater Dei blowjob. Register sports writer Carlos Arias (who is a great boxing writer–too bad nobody sees the sport anymore) begins the piece …
Dear Mexican: How can you explain the disparity between Japan and Mexico? Japan is a nation a fraction the size of Mexico with zero natural resources and suffered a devastating war of four years that included two atom bombs, yet has reached the highest in educational achievements, technological advancements and economic power. Then there is …
There's nothing illegal about paying your spouse to work on your congressional campaign. Richard Pombo did it. So did Tom DeLay. Even local boy Dana Rohrabacher does it. The Sunlight Foundation is busily compiling information on all sorts of representatives, but for the moment they're focusing on members of Congress and their families. Using something …
We were at the Rhino Records in Claremont recently, picking up the new Bob Dylan and Pete Yorn CDs, when my girlfriend came upon a little stub of a paperback book on one of the wall racks and pulled it down to have a look. It was about the size of a 100-pack of 4 …
