The revolving door of eateries continues. According to the Capistrano Dispatch, the space that the recently departed Rendezvous occupied in San Juan Capistrano's train depot is being developed by the people behind Gemmell's of Dana Point. In it's place, come mid-January, will be a steakhouse called “The Vintage Steakhouse”.
The December issue of Spin–featuring fetching (and pregnant!) freshly minted Grammy nominee M.I.A. on the cover–sports a write-up of the self-titled debut from Costa Mesa's Japanese Motors, in the mag's micro-mini album review section. It's a positive (if not a bit cheeky; the band is dubbed “boarding brosefs”) review, too, bringing up the seemingly obligatory …

Don't get me wrong–I like Mother's Market, our homegrown Whole Foods. I make it a point to support businesses that subscribe to the principles of the Slow Food movement–we all are sinners (except for the do-gooders at Avanti Cafe), so I understand slip-ups or exceptions occur from time to time. But I was still surprised …
Orange County product Monique Powell–she of Save Ferris fame, natch–has a new project called The Mojo Wire, and they're opening up tonight for The Growlers at Detroit Bar. It's a lot more hard rocky than the early No Doubt-esque bouncy ska of Save Ferris, which is kinda disorienting; but given that bouncy ska is a …

This past Tuesday night at the Edwards South Coast Village in Santa Ana, and an Orange County Film Society-sponsored advance screening of the new Gus Van Zant-directed, Sean Penn-starring Harvey Milk biopic, simply titled Milk. Radio is dead. MTV, as you have no doubt heard by now, doesn't play music videos anymore. The best bet for bands these days is to get their song played on a TV show or commercial, as crass as that might sound—just ask Sia, whose “Breathe Me” became a hit after appearing in the series …
