Seal Beach Pier Ruby’s Appears Totalled by Fire

The Ruby’s Diner at the end of the Seal Beach Pier is engulfed in flames.

Several firefighters on the pier and at least three boats shooting strong streams of water on the burning structures are battling the blaze.

The fire was reported at the diner that closed in 2013 about 7:45 a.m., according to Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority.

When crews first arrived, flames spreading from the buildings were threatening the entire wooden pier. Some of the pier and a lifeguard station were destroyed by fire in 1992, and a strong storm in 1983 left Seal Beach without a pier.

At this hour, it appears firefighters have stopped the fire from spreading, however.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated, Kurtz said.
