Scott Peterson–no, not the creep on death row for dumping his pregnant wife's body into a bay but the Orange High School Spanish teacher-creeper–pleaded guilty Monday to having unlawful, riverbed sex with a 17-year-old female student.
Under a court deal, Scott Adrian Peterson, 50, of Anaheim, is expected at his October sentencing to get 16 months in jail followed by three years mandatory supervision.
If this case has a familiar ring to it, that could be due to you having read my colleague R. Scott Moxley's coverage days before New Year's 2011.
Peterson met the girl in his class and “groomed” her by arranging meetings at Disneyland and other
social events, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office (OCDA), which adds the relationship began to turn sexual in April 2010.
The teacher snapped sexually explicit photos of
himself with the girl and sent her text messages
about their meetings in an Orange riverbed for sucking and fucking. Bad move. The texts were discovered on the girl's phone by a family member, who passed them along to the girl's mother, who passed them along to the Orange Police Department.
Investigating officers who set out to arrest Peterson discovered he was at the riverbed again. When they arrived, the girl's car was parked nearby. She emerged from the riverbed shortly after cops arrived and left without the officers confronting her at that time. Soon after, Peterson walked out–and was immediately placed under arrest.
He pleaded guilty Monday to two felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, four felony counts of oral copulation of a minor and two felony counts of sexual penetration by foreign object of a minor.
Under the court deal, Peterson is expected to be formally sentenced Oct. 5 to four years and four months in state prison, reports the OCDA, which notes that under new California sentencing laws it is expected the judge will halve the actual amount of time served behind bars.
