Santa Monica Farmers Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Good Food Festival & Conference

In the world of farmers markets in Southern California, none is more legendary than the system that runs the Santa Monica Farmers Market. KCRW-FM 89.9's Good Food with Evan Kleiman offers their updates from the Wednesday version, head Laura Avery is a Southern California food legend, and more than a few renowned chefs get their produce from there.

To celebrate their 30th anniversary, the market is holding the first-ever Good Food Festival starting today and going through Sunday, a series of panels, workshops, eats, and films celebrating sustainable food. The Orange County connections after the jump!

Yours truly will be part of a panel along with Los Angeles Times food editor Russ Parsons, LA Weekly food god Jonathan Gold, and others talking about the media's role in covering food policy. But the biggest OC presence is Avery herself: she's an OC gal who hasn't yet abandoned us! She's also one of the people behind the newish Orange farmers market held every Saturday near Chapman University. Sure, it's a long trek to Santa Monica, but support our hometown hero. See you there!
