The Santa Ana Police Department holds a DUI/drivers license checkpoint from 9 tonight through 3 a.m. Saturday in a familiar spot for these operations.

It's the 500 block of West First Street, which is First and Ross-ish, no?
“The primary purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests,” reads a police advisory. It also cites DMV data that shows unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver.
Over in Placentia, extra officers with the DUI Enforcement Team will take part in special saturation patrols that have them looking from drunken or drugged drivers from 6:30 p.m. Friday, through 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Funding for both departments' operations come from grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
