This weekend's Downtown Artwalk in SanTana looks more promising than ever. Local art collective Konsept will host it for the first time and will include an impressive output of art and music together, among the usual array of vendors and art shows at the adjacent galleries in the area.
Originally a two-member rap group, Konsept went beyond making music and filming each others' escapades to meet more artists and musicians, growing into a larger art entity that wanted to establish a breeding ground for artistic collaboration in SanTana.
And only two years since its formation, it looks like that desire is starting to become reality. Not only an art collective, Konsept is also a marketing and event coordination company for artists and musicians looking for promotion into the entertainment industry. The group have hosted art shows and small music showcases at venues like Detroit Bar, Bistro 400, and Avalon Bar.
Konsept as a group is full of interesting and inspiring talents, deserving of a longer, more thorough article (coming soon in the weeks to come!), so here's a small preview of the flurry of happenings Konsept will host Saturday night: live art paintings and installations by Konsept members Charles Balara, Fernando Olivares, Will Eudave, and art duo We Are Rodents (who also will be showing their creatively-painted trash cans at this year's Coachella Music Festival in Indio) among others; B-Boy and freestyle dancers from Saint City, an urban dance spot in SanTana; local band Hayzle Daze and DJ Chip Monk will entertain audiences with their individual flavors of music; Konsept's resident rapper C-Tre will dazzle with his awesome rap prowess (this reporter can testify that his free-style talents are impressive).
Alongside the live art and music will rest photography exhibits by Jackie Estrada, Rosa Celestino and Jesus Heredia; Video displays by Orange County video production company OC Snaps and filmmaker Noe Gomez; Indie apparel company Tough Timez and illustrator Tristan Cruz will also display original products available for sale. There will also be a booth for kids to create their own works of art (with materials generously donated by Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster).
The evening is sure to draw a large crowd, so showing up early is essential; the fun starts at 7:00pm and continues until late (and that won't include the inevitable after-party), but it's Saturday night, so make a point to relax and enjoy what these home-grown talents have to offer. See you there!
