Sandwich Club, New Banh Mi Shop, Opens in Irvine

If you don't count the Vietnamese restaurants that offer it, Lee's Sandwiches has the monopoly on banh mi in Irvine. Now, not so much. Sandwich Club, the banh mi shop that replaces the crepe maker at Diamond Jamboree, will open tomorrow and its roster not only includes banh mi with cha, grilled pork and pâté, but also a sandwich with Chinese sausage as filling.

It's owned by Elaine Tonthat, who owns Papaya Thai just a few doors down.
