Banda is president and CEO of the not-for-profit Four Directions Education, which holds its Honoring Traditions benefit gala at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at El Adobe de Capistrano. Open to anyone, the gala will raise money for the nonprofit as well as the Capistrano Unified School District's Native American Education Program.

Students who have benefited from the school program will speak, bird singers from the Pala Indian Reservation will perform, and a silent auction will be held. But the main event honors Grant, a respected member of the Sac-n-Fox, Iowa and Otoe-Missouria Nations, who will also speak to the OC crowd. When the Indian leader is not counseling, lecturing or appearing at events like this, he is acting, having appeared in projects ranging from Disney's Lone Ranger film to AMC's Breaking Bad.
