An event held Tuesday night at the Skirball in L.A. brought together some giants in food writing. First and foremost, there was former editor of Gourmet Ruth Reichl who was joined by Pulitzer prize-winning L.A. Weekly food critic Jonathan Gold and former L.A. Weekly and Gourmet editor Laurie Ochoa (who's also Gold's spouse).
They were gathered together for a talk entitled “A Celebration of Gourmet Magazine” which was moderated by Evan Kleiman of KCRW's Good Food show, on which our own Gustavo Arellano is a frequent guest.
I'm sure most of you missed the chance to attend it, like I did. But thanks to the Interwebs, the video is already available to view in its entirety. Apart from revealing anecdotes they share about the great but discontinued magazine, for me, it's neat to finally see what Jonathan Gold and Evan Kleiman look like in person…well, in video, at least. Up until now, I've only heard their disembodied voice on my iPod and a scant few online photos.
To view the whole talk, check out Zocalo Public Square's VIDEO, which hosted the event.
Before becoming an award-winning restaurant critic for OC Weekly in 2007, Edwin Goei went by the alias “elmomonster” on his blog Monster Munching, in which he once wrote a whole review in haiku.
