It's always amazed me that opulent parties centered on food are used around here to raise funds for nonprofits that feed the hungry.
They must work because another one is Sunday: Someone Cares Soup Kitchen's fourth annual “Ahi Extravaganza” gala event.
The Costa Mesa-based charity relies on the event to help raise the funds it needs to serve more than 400 people weekly. Clients include the working poor, families that have fallen on hard times and school-age children.
“Ahi Extravaganza” will not be held at the Someone Cares headquarters on 19th Street near Placentia Avenue, but at Geisha House Restaurant, 2773 N. Main St., Santa Ana, from 4-8 p.m.
Participants will enjoy top-shelf entertainment, an assortment of delectable ahi trays and rubbing elbows with Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and mixed-martial artist Benji “Razor” Radach, who will name the lucky winner of a one-on-one personal training session at LA Boxing. A silent auction will be held featuring more than 100 items, including exotic vacation packages, walk-on television parts, winery tours, dinner with celebrities and sports memorabilia.
