The Cure is currently on their first major U.S. tour since 2008, leaving satisfied fans and glowing live reviews in their wake. While in New Orleans, the band debuted two new songs during their three-hour set: “Step Into the Light” and “It Can Never Be the Same.”
Frontman Robert Smith, easily identified by his backcombed hair and red smudged lipstick, says his songs do not convey how he feels all, or even most, of the time:
“That’s the difficulty of writing songs that are a bit depressing,” he’s been quoted saying. “People think you’re like that all the time, but I don’t think that. I just usually write when I’m depressed.”
The Cure will be performing at the Sleep Train Amphitheater in Chula Vista tonight, May 20, followed by a three-night stint at the Hollywood Bowl, May 22-24.
