Robert Carlo Yandolino, Recently of Huntington Beach, Held in Father's Placer County Murder

A former Huntington Beach man who recently moved to Placer County in part of be closer to his father is now sitting in a jail cell there, accused of murdering his dad.

Placer County sheriff's deputies allege Robert Yandolino, 25, shot Carlo Yandolino, 58, on Thursday through the window of the elder Yandolino's sport-utility vehicle at his ranch on Oakhurst Way in rural Placer County between Newcastle and Lincoln, reports the Sacramento Bee.

The shooting happened two days after Carlo and his wife Rebecca realized their longtime dream of opening a tasting room at their ranch's Monte Vista Ranch Olive Oil Co., according to the business' Facebook page.

The most recent post on the page reads: “Due to the tragic death of my beloved husband, Carlo Yandolino, owner and producer of Monte Vista Ranch Olive Oil, our Tasting Bar will not open until further notice. Please remember Carlo in your thoughts and prayers. Rebecca.”

After a five-hour manhunt, Placer County sheriff's deputies arrested Robert Yandolino at an apartment near Wildcat Boulevard and Ranchview Drive Thursday.

A former community college student and restaurant worker in Orange County, the younger Yandolino had only recently moved up north to be with his girlfriend and near his father, Teresa Popovich, the suspect's mother and victim's former wife, told the Bee. Robert most recently had been looking for a job up there, she added.

Popovich rushed up to Placer County to see her son, but jail officials told her they do no allow visits.

“He said, 'I don't know why I am here. I don't know what happened,'” Popovich said of a call her son made to her Friday.

She also claimed Robert “has a heart” and “is not the hostile, angry kid people are making him out to be.”
