Robbery Suspect Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting Involving Two Santa Ana Cops: Update

UPDATE, FEB. 27, 12:14 P.M.: According to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, the Santa Ana Police spokesman, two officers were looking for a robbery suspect when they spotted him in his white Dodge Charger around 11 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Third Street and tried to make contact. Bertagna says it's not yet known what touched off the officer-involved shooting that led to the man being pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified yet.

ORIGINAL POST, FEB. 27, NOON: Two Santa Ana Police officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting about an hour ago that left a man dead in the 1000 block of West Third Street.

City News Service is reporting it as “a confrontation between two Santa Ana police officers and a pedestrian” that “resulted in an exchange of gunfire that left the man dead.”

The officers weren't hurt.

Live video from overhead news copters shows a yellow tarp over a body in the street that is pinned in by a Santa Ana police car and a silver minivan.
