Rich Mead's Canyon Closes; To Reopen As “Reunion”

A reader sent us an e-mail while I was on vacay last week tipping us off on the closing of Rich Mead's Canyon Restaurant in Anaheim Hills. I reviewed Canyon when it first opened three years ago, and wrote that in moving inland after closing Sage and Sage on the Coast, Mead positioned his new restaurant to be a lower-priced version of his two previous ventures. The food, though, appeared largely unchanged.

Now it seems that Mead is rebooting the whole concept again. In a Facebook post he put up September 18th, he said:

]

“As many of you already know, Canyon Restaurant N Bar served it's last meal this past Sunday evening. It's been a great pleasure serving you over the last 3 years and getting to know many of you who supported us during that time. In about 2 months, Canyon will be reinvented into a new concept called “Reunion” with the goal of bringing a much more casual dining experience with an emphasis on value, great food and community. We will keep you apprised of our progress in the coming weeks and look forward to seeing you all again soon!”

Whatever this new restaurant will be, it will still honor Canyon gift certificates, as indicated by a comment the restaurant responded to. Who knows, since it sounds like Reunion might have an even lower price point, those gift certificates might even be worth more.
