One of my first posts here on SaFII (Stick a Fork In It) was about Subway sign twirlers I saw on Grand. Now there comes news that at least one city (Huntington Beach) is doing something about it.
Me, I don't really have a problem with human signs. I find them rather funny, actually. Especially the sign twirlers who aren't particularly lively, who just stand there motionless, having an existential moment.
But most of all, it reminds me of a classic clip from Flight of the Conchords, where Bret gets a job as a human sign. He meets a girl who inspired him to make this revelation:
“She's so flippin' hot, she's like a curry.”
Before becoming an award-winning restaurant critic for OC Weekly in 2007, Edwin Goei went by the alias “elmomonster” on his blog Monster Munching, in which he once wrote a whole review in haiku.
