R.C. Dwain Burch, 36, will be arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he finishes getting patched up at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, states a Santa Ana Police Department advisory.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of West 15th Street around 3 a.m. Wednesday, when they say they received a report of a domestic violence incident that had escalated into a husband stabbing his wife with a large knife.

The woman was found suffering from multiple stab wound to her upper torso that required hospitalization at Western Medical Center, where she was listed in critical but stable condition, police say.

The suspected knifeman, identified as Burch, rode off on a motorcycle before officers arrived, say Santa Ana Police, who alerted surrounding agencies. The abandoned motorcycle was located by Orange Police at Taft and Glassell, and the sheriff's “Duke” copter searching from overhead spotted a man sitting next to a fence at 300 E. Taft “still in possession of the knife,” police say.

“The uncooperative suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of a police K-9,” reads the Santa Ana statement that also indicates detectives form the department's Homicide Unit are investigating.
