ORIGINAL POST, SEPT. 15, 10:03 A.M.: The pro racing community is reaching out with sympathy for driver Robby Gordon, whose father and stepmother were found dead in their Orange Park Acres home Wednesday evening in an apparent murder-suicide.

The Orange County Coroner’s office identified the deceased couple found dead inside a home in the 1400 block of North Kennymead Street in Orange as Robert Gordon, 69, and his wife, Sharon, 57.

Cops got a 9-1-1 call around 5 p.m. Wednesday after the bodies were discovered, according to Orange Police Lt. Fred Lopez, who added an undisclosed weapon was discovered and no other suspects were being sought.

Among those expressing sympathy to Robby Gordon at this hour is Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Like his father, whose nickname was “Baja Bob,” Robby Gordon raced off-road beginning in the mid-1980s and was a seven-time SCORE champion. Over his long career, he raced in NASCAR, CART, IndyCar, Trans-Am, IMSA, IROC and Dakar Rally.

In 2012, he became a racing promoter and a year later created Robby Gordon's SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road series, which has a Super Trucks race at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights.
