Plan 9 From Outer Space

We've gotta admit, director Ed Wood, Jr., had passion, and while that sadly didn’t translate into production values when he made his Plan 9 From Outer Space—now enshrined in history as the worst movie ever made—let’s try and laugh with the dude instead of at the dude at Maverick’s traditional seasonal adaptation of his best-known work. Their Plan 9 play is a surprisingly faithful adaptation of the film, in no small part because the subject matter really does sort of satirize itself, what with the infamous pie-plate UFOs and big-name star Bela Lugosi’s sudden passing prior to filming. (If you think that means his character isn’t in the movie, then you don’t know Wood.) It’s a mess, yes, but a very special mess—and if that’s gonna be the legacy, well, a guy could do worse.

Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 8. Continues through Nov. 22, 2014
