Pinging Panties

Electroclash artist Peaches is known for her provocative minstrel act of a live show: fake beards and blood spitting, merkin (look it up; I swear you'll find it in the pubic interest) swag, and lots and lots of gold lam. I hated her the first time I heard her.

But that was in the relative calm of my friend's Honda Accord. In a roomier, raunchier atmosphere—and with the right amount of drinks—I've seen Peaches fill dance floors, her music provoking gaggles of trashed girls singing along to classy tracks like the Lost in Translation-featured “Fuck the Pain Away” (“Sucking on my titties like you wanted me/Calling me, all the time like Blondie/Check out my Chrissie behind/It's fine all of the time”) or “Shake Yer Dix” (“Boys like the lips swinging in their face/Lying back it's taking their own space”).

Peaches still maintains that same signature catchy raunchiness but now mixes in a little political left-wingedness on her third full-length album, Impeach My Bush. But she doesn't get too serious: the track “Fuck or Kill” seems to hold the motto for the album, “I'd rather fuck who I want than kill who I'm told to.”

Yes, there comes a time in everyone's life when songs about shakin' yer dicks and suckin' on titties and fatherfuckers begin to seem a little juvenile. But none of that really matters as long as you still find them fun as hell to dance to.
